Tips For Avon Door Knocking

I am so very excited to everyone on my team getting out there and promoting their Avon Business. It really encourages me to see you all grow and meet all your goals and dreams.

Here are some tips for all you Avon reps who are out and about promoting your business.

  1. You won't get new customers from the comfort of your home
    1. Have 10 or more brochures but are not getting them out there in good hands? If your brochures are not in good hands then you probably won't get too many orders. Door knocking is most efficient way to gain new customers. If you are shy try partnering up with you Avon leader or District Manager and go door knocking together...it's always easier in pairs.
  2. Make it a goal to get at least 5 new phone numbers
    1. 5 new phone numbers means 5 potential customers as well as 5 new recruits. Most people either forget to call their Avon Rep or they may not be interested in ordering Avon at the time. Calling your customers and following up is a good way to find out if someone is interested or not. Some customers like to receive the brochures but may not order every campaign, give them a brochure regularly anyway, the more you talk to these potential customers the more likely they will feel comfortable ordering from you.
    2. This is what I usually say when I call a potential customer; "Hello Mary, this is Aiden from Avon. I gave you a brochure, I was wondering if you were interested in anything at tis time..no? Not a problem Mary, I will be sure to drop off a brand new brochure for you." OR if the customer has an order you will 9 times out of 10 hear this "Yes I have an order...one sec...let me just find it..." and they will start flipping through the brochure. People tend to forget to call Avon Reps. And sometimes customers don't have an order but want to chat for awhile, always take the time to chat with them because you will get to know them. I always enjoy calling my customers mainly to see how they are all doing!
  3. Know The Product
    1. Potential customers may be unsure about trying a certain product. If you have tried the product or know a lot about it from testimony ( a good example is hair dye) than customers may feel more comfortable ordering it to try it out.
  4. Carry Samples
    1. The last thing we as Avon Reps want is an unsatisfied customer. Carry some skin care, lipstick, hair care etc samples for them to try before they decide to order. I've sold lots of Genics treatment creams which are high priced items JUST from offering a sample. If someone falls in love with a particular lipstick color or likes the skin care sample you provided for them than you will get some sales. No customer wants to order the wrong foundation color or wrong shade of lipstick.
  5. Respect other Avon Reps Customers
    1. If someone says they already order from so and so be courteous and DO NOT try and steal that customer. The ONLY reason you should ever sell Avon to these people is if they have not heard from their Avon rep in a while (and by awhile I mean longer than a month) and if you see someone else's brochures in a store don't be rude and place your's there as well...some Avon Reps have been placing their brochures in certain locations regularly. I could not tell you how many times I've heard of Avon lady cat fights occurring just because other Reps came in and tried to claim a territory that has been already claimed.
  6. Follow Up
    1. So you got the brochure in someone's hand! GREAT! Follow up. ALWAYS ask them for their phone number or jot down all the addresses you dropped books at and follow up. Call them and ask if they like anything in the brochure, call and ask if they'd like to receive continuous brochures. Remember not everyone will order right away, it may be 6 campaigns before they finally order. Do not give up on these people ALWAYS bring them new brochures. I've had customers who did not order for quite some time than 6 campaigns later they have a $100 order...you just never know.
  7. Make Your New Customers Feel Special
    1. Offer them things like Tax free orders for the first order, or 10% off first orders or even a free gift when they place their first order with you. They LOVE this! Ask them what they like and try and provide samples for them too. It is all up to you what promotions you will run and it's completely up to you if you even want to offer promotions. If you don't offer promotions at least to to your customers regularly and get to know them.
  8. Be Prepared To Stay A While
    1. Some doors you will simply introduce yourself, give out a brochure and take down their phone number. But other houses you might see someone you have not seen in awhile or you'll meet someone who just wants to chat.
  9. Always Say Thank You
    1. If someone has a Rep or is not interested be polite and say thank you for your time. It's always good to be friendly and polite.
  10. Have A Script But Don't Be Too Scripted
    1. Have in your head a greeting and the things you will say but remember that sometimes you won't always use them. It all depends on who answers the door.
    2. Don't know what to say?
      1. Here's an example of what you could say, "Hello, my name is Aiden and I am with Avon. I was wondering if you have an Avon Representative." - they will either say that they do, that they are not interested or that they do not have a rep. If they do not have a Rep say: "Would you like a brochure?" If they take the brochure ask: "Have you ever ordered Avon before?" this may result in a great conversation or an opportunity to tell them about Avon.
    3. Once you are done ask them if you can have their phone number. I would say, "May I have your phone number? I like to call people before I place the order in case they forget to call me or have questions". When they give you their phone number also ask when a good time would be to call them. These notes are very helpful in organizing your phone call list.
Door Knocking is fun and easy, sometimes the first few houses can be discouraging because you will be told by many people that they either have a Rep or they just don't order Avon. Door knocking is the best way to get customers, leaving books in mailboxes is fine but chances are if the customer has not met you they probably won't call you. If door knocking is not your thing try setting up Avon Tables where people can meet you and have a look at your product. But don't forget to jot down people's contact information!
